Ol' Skool
(the poet)
“I was raised by ex tricks and convicts,” he says with a laugh, later admitting he was also raised by his mother and older sisters. His easy laughter put me immediately at ease. Everything about Ol’ Skool, from his walk to his talk, gave off the sensibilities of a man somewhat older than he really was.
“I used to hang out with the old folks telling stories in the neighborhood,” he explains, comfortable in his Dickies suit, “my home-girl’s momma says she’s sure that I’ve been here before.” All this was coming from Ol’ Skool, the man who regularly listens to late comedian Rudy Ray Moore, inspiring his tasty 'Lick ‘Em Low Lover' creation.
If he has been here before, then perhaps his memories of younger days inspire the topics of many of his poetic pieces. It’s almost like he recalls notes from Lenny Williams’ “I Love You” just to create a page-turning rendezvous for two in 'Secret Meeting Place.' Bob Marley’s spirit is rebirthed in the words of 'The Struggle', a piece of simple empowerment. It seems even his musical taste can tell you he, as they say, has ‘an old soul’. And from his many performances, from colleges to banquets to bridal showers, his versatility and range seems limitless. "I spit for the hurt house to the church house and the whore house to the poor house! There's no-one I can't reach, even if it's in your house," he says with a smile.
Though B.B. King and the Isley Brothers are no strangers to his car speakers, Ol’ Skool maintains quite well in the present. 'Text Message' will keep your thumbs two-stepping to a different tempo, putting down a remote and picking up his book. The catchy rhythm of 'Seductive Groovin' will start the ignition and 'Intense' will have you on the edge of your seat, ready to bust…literally. When asked about his penchant for foreplay pieces, he said, “I can manipulate any topic into being sexual, from drinking a steaming cup of coffee to changing a flat tire. I love finding new ways to write.”
Ol’ Skool’s Sex Tools Volume 1, 2, and 3 are just as juicy as the “Confessions of A Video Vixen” without the drama and publicity. His poetry can reflect the intimate lives of any one of us; his sensuality stretches us across socio-economic lines and age status. His table of contents for Volume 1, 2, and 3 read like a sensual menu, allowing you to choose your particular flavor for the day. And for people who enjoy the ear candy of poetry, Eargasmic Seductions will give you a hard or sweet tooth for hours. One of his supporters describes the feel of his 15-track album as ‘simply amazing’; “When Ol’ Skool performs,” she says earnestly, “he’s like the Pied Piper of Poetry or something; the crowd always wants to hear more."
Believe in the mind and the body will follow. It sounds like an Ol’Skool philosophy. Raised in the steamy South, this sensual soul speaker has been eclipsing stages up and down the Texas coast. One of the newest members of the punany poets, his trilogy of delightfully written manuscripts, Ol’ Skool’s Sex Tools Volume 1, 2, and 3 as well as his poetic CD, Eargasmic Seductions, are helping to take eroticism to a whole new level.
Ol’Skool was brought up in the bay of Texas City, TX, minutes from Galveston and Houston, Texas.
We know the popular taste in music often changes from one decade to the next; blues gave way to funk and hip-hop derived from soul. Yet the taste of our speech often holds the same seasoning, and Ol’ Skool promises both new and old dishes to delight your palate. With a monopoly on the smooth lip service, Ol’ Skool’s words of suspenseful seduction and empowerment have given him a calling card that cannot be easily duplicated.
